SmartLearn™ comprises two key components:

1. Digital Content
2. Delivery, Management and Tracking system(DMT)

Details of these components and a description of how the system works, are given below.

1. Digital Content:

SmartLearn™ content is a huge collection of digital “courses”.
Each course can be used in teacher driven classes or as
independent learner driven courses for use in ICT rooms.

Each course comprises :

3. Interactive timed exams
4. Full colour digital coursenotes (screen viewable, emailable & printable)
5. Classroom and Homework exercises with sample files
6. Quick Reference Cards in digital format (screen viewable, emailable & printable)
7. A digital Discussion forum for questions and answers between learners
8. Puzzles, quizzes, hints & tips, digital newsletters and more

At the core of each course are high quality, full screen, professionally filmed digital videos with high quality audio. Real, live instructor led courses are filmed with a live participative audience at our state-of-the-art studios.

These chapterised videos, are accompanied by progress tracking review questions and mock exams which create huge learner interactivity.

Each course is accompanied by full colour courseware in digital format. These are the same coursenotes as those used by the audience and the instructor during the filming process and ensures everyone is reading “from the same page”. These notes can be printed or viewed on screen and are made available in Acrobat .pdf format.

The courseware includes exercises to be performed in class or given as homework with all required sample files provided within each course.

2. Delivery, Management and Tracking system (DMT) :
(Provided Free of Charge)

The DMT system, provided free-of-charge, is a feature rich companion to the content library and ensures the smooth, robust and network friendly delivery of the content to the learner irrespective of where the learner may choose to learn. The DMT also allows staff to control who learns what and when whilst tracking and reporting learner progress in real-time irrespective of geography. For example, one pupil may access resources from home whilst others from the school. Staff too can be at home or at the school when either accessing resources themselves or when monitoring the progress of students.

How does it all work ?

SmartLearn™’s digital content and DMT is held and hosted at our Datacentre in Docklands, London, with the exception of the video content which forms the only high bandwidth component of the system. The videos are stored locally on the school’s network. SmartLearn™ is entirely accessed via a web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or above) and requires NO software installation on the learner’s computer. SmartLearn™ relies entirely on standard free software such as the browser, Windows Media Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader which are normally found installed on the majority of UK school computers and those used by pupils at home.

A dedicated SmartLearn™ website is created for each school on our servers. Upon successful login to this site, the learner may follow the course assigned to them by the school staff and access the digital resources pertaining to that course.

To address bandwidth issues, all SmartLearn™ content except digital video is very small and can be accessed through a dial-up narrowband modem connection. The video is loaded onto a school server (during installation by SmartLearn™ engineers). The digital video is pulled automatically from the school server by the learner at the exactly the right time, seamlessly. Hence, all narrow content is pulled from our datacentre whilst video is pulled from a server on the school’s premises. Copies of the video are also provided in CDROM and DVDROM format.

An optional SmartLearn™ SE video server is available for a small additional charge and is installed instead of the video being copied to a school server. This optional hardware is SmartLearn™ property and we provide all maintenance and support for the year. Contact us for more details on this option.
