Chapter reviews are a vital part of SmartLearn. They serve to ensure that you have understood the contents of a particular chapter before you move on to the next chapter. In almost all courses, your successful learning of later chapters depends on you having clearly understood earlier chapters.
Chapter reviews also serve as a means of gauging your progress. If a title has 10 chapters with chapter reviews, then successfully completing each chapter review would represent an extra 10% step in your progress.
Chapter reviews can be attempted an unlimited number of times. If you find yourself unable to answer one of the questions, move on to the others and answer as many as you can. When reviewing how well you scored on a quiz (shown later in this guide) you will know which questions you couldn’t answer and those you answered incorrectly. You may then simply go back to the chapter you were watching and look for the parts that hold the answers. When returning to the review quiz you will be only presented with questions you originally answered incorrectly. Each chapter review will contain questions related to that chapter only.
When you click on the “Next Review” button or the “This Review” button, you will be taken to a chapter review quiz or review for short.

Figure 1 : Starting a Review
After reading the information on the page, press the “Start the Review” button to start the quiz.
Navigating through the review is easy. The simplest way is to use the “»Next” and “«Previous” buttons to move forward and backward one question at a time. If you want to come back to a question at a later time and want a reminder, tick the flag checkbox by clicking on it and the question number will appear in blue in the navigation bar so you may easily identify it.

Figure 2 : Chapter Review : Quick Navigation
Near the topof the screen, below the chapter review name, is the quick navigation bar. It consists of colour coded numbers, each representing one question in the current quiz. Looking at Figure 2 you can see that the review has 14 questions simply by looking at the navigation bar.
The colour coding is as follows.
· Red : The question has not been answered yet.
· Green : the question has been answered by you.
· Blue : the question has been flagged by you.
In addition to this coding, the current question is indicated by a bold font.
In Figure 2 we can see that Joe Smith is looking at question 3 in a 14 question review. He has answered questions 1,2,5 and 6 only and has flagged question 4.
To move to question 5 he can click on either of the next buttons or directly on 5 in the navigation bar.
To move to the previous question John Smith can click on either of the previous buttons or directly on 2 in the navigation bar.
To flag or unflag a question, he must click on the flag checkbox.
As mentioned earlier, there may be several types of questions in a chapter review. The main difference is in the way they are answered. All types of question have the question in the same area of the screen.
These type of questions have a circular shape selector for each answer.
With this type of question, there is only ONE correct answer and therefore only one choice is accepted. If you select an answer and then decide to select another one, the first choice will become unselected.

Figure 3 : Chapter Review : Single answer Questions
If you want to change your selected answer, simply choose another answer and your first choice will deselect itself.
These type of questions have a square shape selector for each answer.
With this type of question, there can be any number of correct answers. You must select all the correct answers within the question for the entire question to be correct. In other words, if there are 3 correct answers and you choose only two of them, the entire question will be incorrect when scored at the end of the test. Sometimes, only one answer is correct, other times some or all of the available choices are correct. More importantly, sometimes none of the answers will be correct and in this case, not choosing any of the answers will score the entire question as correct. With this type of question, you must select all the answers you feel are correct. The correct answer could be all the options, some of them or none of them. Click on the check box to the left of your chosen answers to select them and click on them again to deselect them.

Figure 6 : End Review |
Clicking on the Finish button (see Figure 2, page 2) will bring up a prompt (Figure 6). Clicking on “OK” will end the review and score the test. Clicking on “Cancel” will take you back to the review allowing you to carry on with the test from where you were.
Once you have clicked on “OK” in the warning prompt (Figure 6), you will be taken to a new page (Figure 7). It is similar to the layout of the review itself with a few differences.

Figure 7 : Reviewing the your results.
Navigating through the results is done in the same way as navigating through the review. (see “1.1.2 Navigating Through a Chapter Review Quiz”, page 1).
|
Figure 8 : |
Reviewing your results allows you to see which questions you answered correctly and which you answered wrongly. The navigation bar is, again, colour coded but this time the colours have a different meaning.
· Red : answered wrongly
· Green : answered correctly
· Red/Green : The question was flagged by you suggesting you were not sure.
Clicking on “Show Explanation” button will show you an explanation of the answer if an explanation exists. Not all questions have an explanation.
The question result area shows you the result for the current question. Questions are either marked correct or incorrect. Partially correct answers are marked as incorrect. Un‑attempted questions are marked as incorrect. See Figure 8.
Note: The correct answer to a question is not indicated on this page. If you get an answer wrong, it is better that you find out the correct answer for yourself before attempting the review quiz again. To find the correct answer, you can view the video again for this chapter, read the course manual for this chapter, ask a question in the forums or even ask a colleague or friend for help.
In order to obtain an overall “Pass” result for a review quiz, you must answer all questions correctly. You usually cannot proceed to the next chapter until you pass the review quiz.
When you are done reviewing your results, click the button at the bottom of the screen marked “Back to the video based learning” to return to video based learning. If you successfully passed the review quiz, you will automatically be taken to the next chapter. Otherwise you will be taken to the same chapter you were viewing before you attempted the review quiz.
